The highlight of my line dancing career has been the introduction of Medal Tests in Cape Town.
Under the umbrella of The Best Western Line Dance Academy UK, with the guidance of the medal Test Coordinators from BWDA, I then became the South African Representative for the Academy.
Medal tests have proven to be of great interest to our
Cape Town dancers and we travel as far as the Garden Route to examine candidates.
My fellow BWDA committee members are all qualified
trained teachers / examiners with the BWDA. Collectively we have credentials with other organizations being IDTA-CWDC-SADTA.
Candidates do not have to be members of BWDA and can apply individually. Therefore, if you have dancers in your class who would like to take medals and you
(as an instructor) are not interested, please tell them about this opportunity.
Dancers are required to perform 3 dances, nominated by the Medal Test Coordinators, including a waltz at Bronze, Silver and Gold level, and 4 dances at Gold Bar 1, 11 and 111.
Bronze dances do not contain syncopation and are suitable for improver level but not absolute Beginners.
Silver and Gold dances contain syncopation.
Gold Bar dances may contain tags, restarts and generally have more difficult timing and / or footwork.
More experienced dancers may take Bronze and Silver on the same day but there has to be minimum period of 1 month in between Silver and Gold and a minimum period of 3 months between Gold and each Gold Bar.
